Where can I get the software I need?

Popular software products are available from the UF Computing Help Desk and the UF Bookstore. A deferment program for Financial Aid recipients to purchase books and computer supplies is available through the Technology Hub (392-0193). In addition, check the Internet for companies that sell academic software at a discount.

If you have Internet access and a web browser, then you can obtain software or information about software through the University of Florida's Software Licensing Services. SLS has an alphabetical index of software which includes all of the software that Academic Technology distributes.

Programs, applications, software updates, and utilities are distributed on the Internet by many companies and organizations. Many use ftp servers to distribute these files. These servers can be accessed publicly using a web browser or ftp client such as WS_FTP or Fetch. If the ftp server requires a username and password to download files, then a ftp client will be needed to obtain the files. For instance, the CISE department provides a public ftp server to make files available for download. The host name is: CISE FTP mirror
